Ghungur & Nupur

Ghungur & Nupur

Bauls include some simple dance movements in their performances, especially when performing the refrain of a song, but even while standing relatively still to sing a verse, they often move their feet in time to the meter, and to emphasize these movements, they tie on a chain of small ankle bells and/or a tubular slit bell in the form of an anklet; the former is the ghungur and the latter is the nupur.
